About the writer
ABINA is created by Augustina Austin, who is the writer/editor, and contributing editor at This is Africa . Augustina Austin is a young Ghanaian student, born in the Netherlands . Even though she is born in Europe, she is brought up with great awareness of her origin, language and culture, that is: Africa . Being a creative mind that she is, she was greatly annoyed by the portrait of black women in the worldwide media; she came with the concept of Abina. She combined this idea with her love for fashion and her creativity and brings you her daily catching.
“ABINA is a name I have used for this platform, because it is an African name, which my focus group can relate to. I didn’t want to go for a name, such as: ‘African woman’ or whatsoever. I want to keep it short and catchy. Abina defines a woman who is of African origin, who is beautiful, aware, intelligent, and ambitious and she never forgets where she comes from. Apart from writing about fashion and culture I highlight issues which African Diaspora often deals with. Cause the truth is: once you move to the western world, you deal with at least two cultures. Discussing real life issues makes them more approachable.” As Augustina states.
ABINA is always on the lookout for African related exclusive news, fashion tips and more. If you have any ideas, contributions or whatsoever, do not hesitate to Contact Abina through abinamag@gmail.com
