Under the mag: African style market Soko Stingo

I ran into an interesting article about African style market Soko Stingo. Street markets used to be known as places where you can find life essentials, but these markets are globally changing into platforms that also sell clothing for designers, socialites and entrepreneurs. Such has the arrival of pop-style market Soko Stingo (which means style market in Swahili), which took place in Accra, Ghana on the 9th of October. This style market attracted more than 300 visitors. Wanna know more?

Soko Stingo is founded by five entrepreneurs as a creative business venture that is intended to showcase designers from Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Ghana and the rest of Africa. It is also organised to create opportunities for these designers and connect creative minds in Africa.

The Soko Stingo market on the 9th of October started at 12 noons. The market also showcased brands such as Zali, Sleek, Orange culture, Wana Sambo, design for love, Diva Delicious, Cool Bean and more. Everything from clothing to food and cosmetics were for sale at affordable prices. Due to the success of the Soko Stingo market, it was held again in December in Accra. Now, the market will be every 3 months interchangeably in Accra, Lagos, Freetown and Abidjan. A percentage of all profits will be donated to African charities.

Adebayo Oke-lawal, Soko Stingo’s financial director, told Arise magazine that it is the first creative market that does not have the goal of selling. Soko Stingo’s aim is to build a platform that helps African enterpeneurs get to their next level. “It's about building a relationship that brings people together all over Africa, from Botswana to Dakar".

Watch the video below to get a glimpse of the market.
