Under the Mag: Ozwald Boateng designing for women?

It seems as designer Ozwald Boateng is going to branch into a new market by designing for women. The Ghanaian-British designer, who is known for his Couture design line, has been making fit suits since 1990 for stars such as Chris Tucker, Will Smith, Mick Jagger, Samuel L. Jackson, just to name a few. It seems that our sexy, chocolate-looking designer will soon be creating a fit line for women.

"I'm ready to do womenswear," he tells us. "You've always got to be inspired by something new - women have so much more shape and I'm about finding what to engineer around those shapes.

For those who are not familiar with Ozwald Boateng, shame on you!

Ozwald Boateng is a Ghanaian British fashion designer, specialized in male suits. He was brought up in North London and began tailoring at the age of 16. Taking the steps of his mother, who was a seamstress, Ozwald Boateng began making clothes since then. In 1994 he started his own store on Savile Row in London. In 2002 he became known worldwide and is one of the great contributors to the tailoring industry since.

His designs have been in the Jude law movie, the James Bond 007 film series and Rush Hour 3. Boateng has stores in England, Dubai, United Arab Emirates and Russia.

This is a designer that has a global brand. He has yet more stores to open around the world, which the world has never seen by an African.

Ozwald Boateng is also featured in BET’s commercial: ‘It’s my thing’.

This is one of the reasons why I started this blog. I celebrate accomplishments like these. We often say: ‘This is a white man’s world’. But I believe this will change, once we all become an opportunist like Ozwald Boateng. We as Africans should all use our potential and take a stand in the western societies. This is a black man’s world too!
