African woman, Environmental and political activist, Wangari Maathai unfortunately lost her battle to cancer last week on the 25th of September. Wangari Maathai was the first African woman to win a Nobel peace prize for her contribution to sustainable development, democracy and peace. The reason why I love her is not only because of her great work, but also because of her positive presence she carried at all times. Africa has gained great achievements through her, but lost a great woman.
Wangaari Maathai became well known around the world after winning her Nobel Peace prize. Although her work for environment was more highlighted internationally, she did great work for Africa as a whole. May she inspire us to do great and even greater. Wangari Maathai may your soul rest in peace.
