Under the Mag: Uzuri by Audrey N.M

A fresh, new and young designer happened to appear under Abina’s radar. Her name is: Audrey N.M and her clothing line is called: Uzuri. This young and talented designer exposed her chique and creative work at the celebration of Cameroon’s Independence Day in The Hague, the Netherlands. The audience was marvelled by her creations and so were we. She showed the kind of goods that convinced the young and the older generation of great sense of style combined with African fabrique. Her chique and colourful style, as she describes it herself, we believe has a great future. We are one of the first to have an exclusive interview with her show you picture of her first fashion show.

Who is the person behind Uzuri?

My name is Audrey N.M. and I'm 22 years old. I'm originally from Cameroon and I am residing in the Netherlands. I am now a graduating student at International Business and Languages at the Rotterdam Business School. Yet, I am working towards pursuing my dream
of becoming a stylist/fashion designer.

How did your love for fashion start?

My love for fashion, started at young age. I became very aware of my looks and my wear. I also started drawing at the age of 2. I knew precisely what I wanted to wear and what I did not want to wear. For example, whenever my mom chose outfits for me to wear I would hide another outfit of my choice in my bag and sneak out in it.

Around the age of 12, my passion for drawing came back, especially during my internship in Paris. I got encouraged by a special someone, who led me to making these beautiful creations, Uzuri.

Describe your sense of style?

I consider my style to be casual chic. I translate that into Uzuri. At time, the look is rock-ish, preppy, street style or glamorous.

Describe Uzuri

Uzuri bridges the gap between the Western world and African wear. this fusion of both worlds is not only in the fabrics but also in the portrayed styles.
