Sozanni and Cavalli visit West-Africa! A part of booming Africa

A statement that has been said many times: “Africa is a booming nation and all Africans should be a part of it. “ I remember that this was said by Anne Merit van Hoeve who is an executive director Human resource at Vlisco Group (African textiles). I think she is true in many ways. The nation that is so much associated with poverty, man slaughter en hunger has a rising music industry and a booming fashion industry. This leads me to iconic fashion designer Roberto Cavalli and Vogue Italia Editor-in-chief who are visiting Ghana and Nigeria for fashion activities. This fashion duo first visited Nigeria and then went to Togo and to Ghana. Interested to know what they went to do?

H&M goes African in Spring 2012! All because of Marni

The next top fashion designer who is will produce H&M's Spring 2012 collection is Italian fashion label Marni. Marni is not African, obviously, but this collection has a lot of African elements. The African elements are the colourful prints in the collection. Remarkable how Africa’s colourfulness is now taking a hold of the Westies.

Under the Mag: Burberry Prorsum

We know that Burberry is not a new brand. But Abina is totally in love with the Burberry Prorsum spring 2012 collection. The reason why, is because, it is all African inspired and it look absolutely chique. The collection displays Ankara prints, deep brown and all that is African inspired. Africa is going global, baby! And Abina's the first to tell.

Critics say that the African print outside Africa is just a trend. This might be so, but Abina absolutely loves the now trend: colourful and African. It might be a trend outside Africa, but we Africans will keep rocking African prints.

The Burberry Prorsum 2012 spring collection is a combination of chunky necklaces, dresses, and pencil skirts finished with an edgy top and colourful coat. Fabulous all the way! Pictures displayed below.he African print outside Africa is just a trend. This might be so,

Fashion news: Louis V goes black!

Louis Vuitton has chosen a fresh-faced Zimbabwean model to be the face of their 2011 fall/winter ad campaign. The sixteen-year-old Nayasha Matonhodze is her name and she is making us so proud. She is represented by Elite Model Management in London and has made her debut by walking for Louise Gray, Robert Ribeiro and more. I don’t think LV has ever gone black. And you know what they say: afterwards, you can’t go back.

All New: Gallery of Poems, by Vlisco

Vlisco has launched their November collection: Gallery of Poems. The fabric is looking fantastic! The Dutch company Vlisco is the World’s number one textile company which launched what we now know as African fabric, Wax Hollandaise in Africa. Their rich colours and prints became a part of the African culture instantly, especially in West Africa and Central Africa.

Even though the fabrics of Vlisco are constantly being copied and sold for much cheaper prices, Vlisco Holland is still a market leader.

Under the mag: Swahili fashion Week

Swahili Fashion Week makes me wonder what is behind that name. This event caught my attention and I didn’t hesitate to let you know. The Swahili fashion week, this year on the 4th -6th November, is regarded as the platform for designers from Swahili speaking countries. This fashion week is a combination of expressing creativity in fashion and accessories, Swahili cuisine, arts & crafts, music performance, entertainment and more. This year, many designers from East Africa gathered to make this event a successful one in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania.

Many designers showed their fined creativity at the event. Chichia London, Koroo and Asia Idarous are a few of the designers that participated in the Swahili Fashion Week. Abina is familiar with Chichia London, her style and designs.

I love the distinctive style of East Africa. Compared to the Central and West African style, they use more dark colors in their designs.

It seems as designer Ozwald Boateng is going to branch into a new market by designing for women. The Ghanaian-British designer, who is known for his Couture design line, has been making fit suits since 1990 for stars such as Chris Tucker, Will Smith, Mick Jagger, Samuel L. Jackson, just to name a few. It seems that our sexy, chocolate-looking designer will soon be creating a fit line for women.

Under the Mag: Lanvin for H&M

It is time for a new high-fashion designer to create a clothing line for H&M and the brand is Lanvin! The clothing line will arrive in stores on the 23rd of November.

The noted womenswear designer: Alber Elbaz comments: ‘I have said in the past that I will never do a mass-market collection, but what intrigued me was the idea of H&M going luxury, rather than Lanvin going public’. Well let’s wait and see if Lanvin can have us going crazy like Cavalli did.
